A new Serbian Cyrillic typeface, primarily designed for use on the internet and in digital formats—Manument RNIDS—was presented on January 27, the 13th anniversary of .срб ccTLD. This is the sixth typeface commissioned by the Serbian National Internet Domain Registry Foundation (RNIDS) in collaboration with the Tipometar organization. The fonts are now available for free download from the RNIDS website and the website иманаћирилици.срб.

During the event held at the University Library “Svetozar Marković,” the creator of the typeface presented, graphic artist Lazar Rakonjac, explained that it is a sans-serif typeface—neutral and classic—inspired by grotesque and humanist sans-serifs. The fonts were created in seven weights, with both italic and roman versions.
The audience had the opportunity to listen to an insightful lecture by dr. Vasilije Milnović, head of the University Library’s Science Center. He highlighted the potential of training artificial intelligence on high-quality Serbian literary language corpus. Dr. Milnović also discussed local and international projects involving the Library, with a particular focus on the Pretraživa collection available at претражива.срб. This collection contains a corpus of digitized historical newspaper texts, over 500,000 pages in Serbian, including publications dating back to the mid-19th century.
The event continued with the presentation of the website иманаћирилици.срб, developed during a hackathon and further refined to offer a platform where the community can find and share resources and tools for using Cyrillic online.
Subsequently, Dušan Stojičević, Deputy Chair of the RNIDS Board of Directors, and Dijana Milutinović (RNIDS) discussed the position of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs), such as .срб, on the web. They explored whether technology treats different world languages fairly, concluding that full multilingualism involves more than just implementing a single standard. It was noted that modern technologies and artificial intelligence can significantly support multilingualism on the internet, particularly in terms of content, although their capabilities seem limited at the domain name system level.
.срб domain and RNIDS fonts
The registration of the .срб domain began on January 27th 2012. To date, nearly all countries that use Cyrillic script have enabled the registration of domain names in Cyrillic. The .срб domain is the second Cyrillic county code top-level domain (ccTLD) in the world.
In recent years, RNIDS has celebrated this important date by giving away Serbian Cyrillic fonts designed for screen display, digital formats, and print. So far, five typefaces have been created and given to community—Areal RNIDS, Orto RNIDS, Lingva RNIDS, Etar RNIDS, and Neo Geo RNIDS—all available for download here.
