The Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS) published the January issue of RNIDS News, which represents an internal journal of RNIDS and contains current information on the operation and activities of RNIDS both in Serbia and abroad.
In the January issue of the News, RNIDS presents a Proposal of Rules and Processes for Registering the Cyrillic Domain .срб which have already gone through a public discussion. Two documents are proposed; one regulates the initial period of .срб domain registration, whilst the other contains rules to be applied for open registration of .срб domain names. During the initial registration period, .срб domain names for the needs of RNIDS will be registered first, then domain names for the needs of the state will be reserved and in the end .срб domain names will be reserved for each and every registered .rs domain name, by offering registrants domain names transliterated from the Latin to the Cyrillic script. Upon termination of the initial period of registering .срб domain names, the process of open registration shall commence. The initial period of registering .срб domain names is expected to begin in May, whilst the open registration of the Cyrillic domain .срб is planned for the second half of 2011.
RNIDS News also presents a report on a regular Assembly Session of the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names, which took place in Belgrade. During the Assembly Session, 2011 Financial Plan of RNIDS was ratified and Assembly Members were acquainted with activities related to the procedure of regulating and introducing the Cyrillic domain. Assembly Members also adopted the Proposal of Cooperation with the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society and the Cooperation Agreement with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce with Regard to Organising Proceedings for Settling Disputes Arising out of the Registration of .rs Domains, along with the New Rulebook.
The January issue of RNIDS News focuses on signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society and the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names (RNIDS). The Agreement regulates principles upon which RNIDS operates and cooperates with the relevant ministry. The signed Agreement defines obligations of RNIDS related to its status, the manner of performing its basic activities, transparency of activities, providing equality in the registration process, assuring accessibility and availability of critical parts of the Internet infrastructure, as well as the manner in which the Parties should act in case of irregularities in operation.
This issue of RNIDS News also presents projects which have been implemented so far within the Competition that RNIDS opened for co-financing projects in 2010. The Competition for co-financing projects was carried out in two rounds and RNIDS brought a decision to co-finance a total of 28 projects with more than 6,100,000 RSD. The total value of all co-financed projects is over 18,000,000 RSD.
In addition, the January issue of RNIDS News shows statistical data on the increase in the number of registered .rs domain names from 2008 to 2010, as well as the percentage share of registered .rs domain names according to location of registrants. Approximately 63,000 .rs domain names have been registered to date in the following five address spaces: .rs, .co.rs, .org.rs, .in.rs and .edu.rs.
Last but not least, RNIDS News follows international activities of the national register. The January issue of RNIDS News contains reports from two international conventions: the 4th CENTR Marketing Workshop in Brussels and the 39th International ICANN Meeting held in Cartagena (Columbia). Members of RNIDS attended both conferences.
